On Wednesday, ICC Prosecutor Fatou Bensouda presented the pretrial brief of her case against the former Ivorian president, Laurent Gbagbo and youth leader Charles Blé Goudé. The 153-page document describes in detail the charges against the two men and the “common plan” by the Gbagbo clan to stay in power. Gbagbo and Blé Goudé are charged with crimes against humanity, including murder, rape, other inhumane acts or – in the alternative – attempted murder and persecution during the post-election violence in Ivory Coast in 2010 and 2011. Their trial at the ICC is due to begin on 10 November 2015.
In the lead-up to the trial, our sister site, Ivoire Justice, commissioned two comic strips by well-known Ivorian cartoonist Roland Polman, to illustrate the stories of two Ivoirans who suffered during the post-election crisis.
The first is the story of Amadou Tall, who was abducted and beaten by pro-Gbagbo soldiers after a demonstration in support of the current president of Ivory Coast, Alassane Ouattara. Tall’s story was initially published as an article on 30 March 2013.
